Vietnam ICT Awards 2009

The second Vietnam’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Awards 2009 ceremony was held at the Hanoi Opera House last weekend by the Ministry of Information and Communication. 31 prizes were presented to the most excellent organizations and businesses in terms of information communication technology.

According to the Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Nguyen Minh Hong, the number of the contestants of ICT Awards 2009 (including 200 regular profiles of candidates and 7 profiles of foreign businesses) is three times more than this of 2008. Prizes were presented to outstanding ICT organization and businesses in five areas: communication (mobile phone, fixed telephone lines and Internet service), IT industry (software, digital content), IT human resources training, IT application and foreign enterprises with significant contribution to the development of information and communication technologies in Vietnam.

Among governmental agencies, the Ministry of Industry and Trade was honored to receive the prize for the most excellent IT application. The prize expresses sustained efforts of the Ministry’s officials in IT area. Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has been focusing on IT application in management such as using electronic email and holding online regional meetings … The Ministry provides online administrative procedures which has been significantly improved on the website: www.moit.gov.vn

The Viet Nam Data Communication (VDC) won the prize for the best internet service provider, best customer care provider, best new service provider and the best broad band internet provider. In comparison with other internet providers such as Viettel, FPT Telecom, EVN Telecom and CMC Telecom, VDC has exceeding advantage thanks to inheriting VNPT’s internet infrastructure.

There was a surprise in mobile phone area. MobiFone, with the prize for the most favored mobile network by E-chip Mobile Magazine had been expected to get the prize for the best mobile business. However, thanks to exceeding turnover in the last year, Viettel won the first prize. Losing the leading position, MobiFone received the prize for the best customer service mobile network. Huge number of post-paid subscribers in 2009 which was equal to the total number of the last ten months brought VinaFone the prize for the best postpaid service provider. In addition VinaFone won the prize for the best new service provider.

It is another surprise that MISA Joint Stock Company won the prize for the best domestic software provider. In comparison with FPT or CMC, MISA is a smaller company with the capital of VND89 billion and 340 staff. However, thanks to high quality and the huge number of 40,000 users, MISA won the laurel wreath.

In the area of IT industry, Elead received the prize for the best Vietnamese computer company. With 70,000 computers sold and the domestic market share occupation of 50 percent, Elead exceeded CMS, which assembles computer parts for famous brands of HP and NEC, to get the leading position.

In terms of digital content, with the turnover of nearly VND1,000 billion, VNG (formerly VinaGame Software Service Company) won the best enterprises in digital content in 2009. In addition, the prizes for the most potential enterprise in information communication technology and the best enterprise in Vietnamese digital content products were given to VNG. The most outstanding product of VNG is electronic information gate “Zing” which is more highly appreciated than the electronic newspaper www.vnexpress.net

Concerning to IT application, the highlight of this year is the competition among the provinces. In people’s committee sector, Lao Cai province People’s Committee had been thought of as a “star” in IT application. However, the first prize was given to Tra Vinh province People’s Committee which has the highest rate of using computer, internet and software. In department sector, the Office of Hue City People’s Committee won the first prize.

The Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Nguyen Minh Hong said that, next year, many innovations which were proposed by the examiners will occur. Nguyen Liem Truc, the Deputy Minister of Information and Communication, the member of examiners board stated that organizations and businesses which do not summit profiles will be considered in the next year./.
