Vietnam has additional 3m phone subscribers in Q1

During the first three months this year, Vietnam had additional three million phone subscribers including 2.98 million mobile phone subscribers and 23,800 fixed phone subscribers. In March alone, the total number of new mobile phone subscribers reached 1.5 million, according to the general Statistic Office (GSO).

Totally, till the end of March, 2011, Vietnam had 174.1 million subscribers including 16.5 million fixed phone users and 157.6 million mobile phone users (increasing 28.2 percent against the same period last year).

In Q1 2011, the country’s total number of Internet subscribers reached 3.8 million, increasing 19.2 percent year-on-year, of which, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) accounted for 2.7 million subscribers. Till the end of March, the total number of Internet users reached about 29 million people, up 22.9 percent from the same period last year.

The total net revenue of post and telecommunication sector in Q1 was estimated to reach 29.2 trillion dong, growing 14 percent over the same period last year, of which, VNPT contributed 18.7 trillion dong, a year-on-year rise of 9.1 percent.
