Vietnam has 74 steel projects with designed capacity of over 100,000 tonnes pa

At present, Vietnam has total total of 74 cast iron and steel projects with designed capacity of over 100,000 tonnes of finished products per year, accoriding to the latest report released by Ministry of Industry and Trade, excluding the steel mill projects under the management of Vietnam Steel Corp (VNSteel). The total investment capital in the country’s steel industry was estimated at 41.997 trillion dong and $20.1 billion.

With the forementioned number of steel projects, the designed capacity for 2015-2020 period would be 2.04 million tonnes of cast iron products per year; 16.3 million tonnes of steel billet per year and 35.29 million tonnes of rolled steel, in which construction steel counted for 10.35 million tonnes per year and steel sheet of 24.94 million tonnes per year.

Ministry of Industry and Trade suggested the government to guide the local authorities in revoking the sluggish steel projects that failed to be carried out as committed before.
