Vietnam Handicraft Sector Needs Urgent Reforms
Vietnamese handicraft sector had developed under its potentials and needs to take some initiatives to boost its production and trade, according to experts at a conference yesterday in Ho Chi Minh City.
Dang Quoc Hung, deputy chairman of the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of HCM City (Hawa) was quoted as saying that the sector has to promote its trade as local firms should take part in international handicraft fairs and exhibitions to promote their trade-brands and to attract clients.
They also have to learn how to decorate and arrange their stands at international fairs, Pam Hong Son, a trade promotion officer from the Vietnam Handicraft Exporters’ Association said.
Tran Quoc Manh, a deputy of the Hawa advised Vietnamese handicraft producers should play actively in designs new products rather than waiting for orders and make products following the designs from buyers.
Vietnam’s handicraft products are selling in 80 countries and territories with Japan, the EU, the US, Russia and ASEAN as main importers.
The revenue from exports of handicraft in 2009 was US$888 million, the General Statistics Office said. (VNS)
