Vietnam forecast to use 1.2M tons of LPG this year

Vietnam is predicted to consume around 1.2 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) this year, said the Vietnam Gas Association without giving comparative figure.

The country currently has 80 gas traders and 20 producers of empty gas cylinders.

Local taskforces said fake gas accounts for 30% of the total gas volume marketed in Vietnam and causes an annual loss of VND80 billion ($4.1 million) to the state budget revenues.

Fake gas traders in the nation are estimated to pocket up to VND100 million a month by cutting down one kilogram of gas per 12-kilogram canister and using unqualified gas.

In order to tighten control over gas trading, the government has issued Decree No. 107/2009/NĐ-CP to stipulate the activity, which will take effect on October 1.
