Vietnam Fisheries Output +4.9% to 1.448M Tons in Jan-April

Vietnam harvested an estimated fisheries output of 1.448 million tons in the first four months of this year, making a slight rise of 4.95 from previous year, the General Statistics Office said.

The total volume included 638,900 tons from aquaculture farms, up 5.3% and 809,100 tons from fishing vessels, up 4.6% from previous year.

In April, the country harvested 380,300 tons, including 91,700 tons of fish and 38,600 tons of shrimp, making on year rises of 6.5% and 8.4%, respectively, from the same month of last year.

But the office said prolonged hot weather causing salinity intrusion and drought has damaged shrimp ponds in the Mekong Delta, adding that 10,361 hectares, or 9.3% of total shrimp area, in Bac Lieu province are infected with diseases. The figures in Kien Giang is 9,400 hectares, or 13.4%; Quang Nam, 500 hectares or 455, Phu Yen, 400 hectares, or 76%.
