Vietnam Expects EU’s Fair Judgment on Shoes Duties: Spokeswoman
Vietnam expects the European Council to make a fair decision on anti-dumping duties against its leather cap shoes, the foreign ministry’s spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga said on December 3.
Answering reporters’ queries on Vietnam’s response to the European Council’s vote in Dec for penalty duties on shoes imported from Vietnam, Nga reaffirmed Vietnamese makers do not dump leather-capped shoes on the European market.
Vietnam calls on the European Union to end anti-dumping taxes on its shoes soon to ease pressures on its producers as well as many European retailers and consumers, Nga said.
The Vietnamese spokeswoman also added the leather and footwear sector is among Vietnam’s main industries, which has created lots of jobs particularly those for female laborers.
The EU’s anti-dumping committee rejected a proposal by the European Commission to extend the penalty duties on shoes originated from Vietnam and China Nov 19.
Vietnam exported US$800 million worth of leather cap shoes to the European market in the ten months of this year.
