Vietnam demands inquiry on US anti-dumping measures
The US’s decision to impose anti-dumping measures for Vietnamese shrimps is not subject to the anti-dumping agreement or any agreements under the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
This was stated by Ambassador Vu Dung, Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UN at a meeting with the WTO disputes settlement panel on April 20.
Vietnam has asked the WTO to set up an inquiry to consider its lawsuit against the US imposing anti-dumping measures on shrimps imported from Vietnam. This is the first time Vietnam has asked for this since its entry to the WTO and this has been scrutinised in consultation with the US.
The US has imposed a nationwide tax rate which runs counter to the anti-dumping agreement and Vietnam’s protocol on WTO admission, said Mr Dung.
