Vietnam Coal Production +6.2% to 18.16MT in Jan-May

Vietnam’s coal production rose 6.2% from a year earlier to 18.155 million tons in the first five months of this year, said the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO).

The Southeast Asian country produced 3.795 million tons of the fossil fuel in May, down 5% on month but up 1.3% on year, according to the GSO.

The office said the nation exported 8.601 million tons of coal worth US$646 million between January and May, down 12.3% and up 34.4% on year, respectively.

This year, the state-owned Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) targets to produce 47 million to 50 million tons of coal to earn revenues of between VND63 trillion (US$3.315 billion) and VND65 trillion. – GSO
