Vietnam coal output rise to 32.364M tons in Jan-Sept

Vietnam produced 32.364 million tons of coal in the first nine months of this year, up 1.4% on year, the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) said.

In September alone, the coal output reached 3.379 million tons, up 1% on month.

The country is estimated to export 14.67 million tons of coal worth $1.159 billion in Jan- Sept, down 17% from on year for volume despite an increase of 26.2% for value, the GSO said.

The state-owned Vietnam National Coal Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), the country’s top miner, targets to produce between 47 million-50 million tons of coal and export 18 million tons of the fossil fuel in 2010.

The nation is forecast to have to start importing coal after 2015, although it is still boosting coal exports. – GSO
