Vietnam Coal Exports Down 14.3% to 12.05M Tons in Jan-July

Vietnam is estimated to have exported 12.05 million tons of coal worth $917 million in the first seven months of this year, down 14.3% from a year earlier in volume but up 29.2% on value, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said.

The Southeast Asian country raked in $125 million from shipping abroad 1.4 million tons of coal in July, down 14.38% and 26.66% on month, respectively, the office attributed.

This year, the state-owned Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), the country’s top miner, targets to produce 47 million to 50 million tons of coal and export 18 million tons of the fossil fuel.

The nation is forecast to have to start importing coal after 2015, although it is still boosting coal exports.
