Vietnam central province starts building $4.49m waste treatment plant

Authorities of Vietnam’s central province of Quang Ngai have begun the construction of a waste treatment plant in the island district of Ly Son with a total investment of VND93 billion ($4.49 million).

The facility is capable of treating around 30 tons of waste discharged from local households per day, the Thoi Bao Kinh Te newspaper reported May 27, giving no more detail about the project.

The district is estimated to dump between 30 tons-40 tons of waste into the environment daily, but most of them have not been treated properly, posing a great threat to the environment and local people’s health.

Vietnam will spend VND44 trillion on treating solid waste in urban areas through 2015, the Ministry of Construction said. – NGO
