Vietnam Cashew Nut Export +18.8% to US$232M in Jan-April

Vietnam earned US$232 million from exporting 45,000 tons of cashew nuts in the first four months of 2010, posting a rise of 18.8% in value despite a slight rise of 1% in volume, the General Statistics Office estimated.

The Vietnam Cashew Association, Vinacas, said the soar of export cashew nut prices was attributed to the increase in revenues, adding that export prices of Vietnamese cashew nuts were averaging at US$5,213/ton in Jan-Apr period, up US$780/ton from the same period of last year.

In Apr, the country exported 14,000 tons for US$72 million, up from 10,000 tons valued at US$52 million a month earlier.

The association said the U.S was the biggest importer of Vietnamese cashew nuts with nearly 8,000 tons worth US$42 million in the first quarter. Following was China which imported 5,000 tons worth US$24.5 million.
