Vietnam-Canada relationships develop constantly
The Speaker of the Canadian Senate, Noel A.Kinsella, expressed his delight at the fine development of the relationship between Vietnam and Canada.
During a meeting with Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong in Ottawa on September 4, Mr Kinsella highly valued the attendance of the Vietnamese NA delegation led by Chairman Trong at the meeting of parliamentary speakers from the G20 countries.
He appreciated Mr Trong’s speech at the meeting, which focused on implementing a strategy to meet food production and distribution demands.
According to Senator Kinsella, Vietnam’s experiences in agricultural production are valuable and should be studied by G20 nations to ensure food security. Vietnam has become the world’s leading rice exporter which clearly shows that the country is on the right track of agricultural development thanks to its policies, he said.
He also praised Vietnam’s success in its renewal process, and was pleased with the fruitful relationship between the two countries.
The Canadian Senator proposed that the two countries continue strengthening cooperation in the fields of human resource training, labour, transport infrastructure, culture and tourism.
He hoped that the Senate of Canada and the Vietnam National Assembly would promote the exchange of delegations to share experience and support each other in bilateral and multilateral forums.
NA Chairman Trong said Vietnam’s participation at the meeting is a good opportunity for the country to learn more about food security.
The meeting has also opened the opportunity for the G20 and other countries to promote cooperation on regional and global issues, said Mr Trong, adding that Vietnam and Canada should consider more cooperative activities to boost ties.
The current two-way trade turnover of US$1 billion is not on a par with both countries’ potential, said Mr Trong.
The NA Chairman asked the Senate of Canada to create favourable conditions for Canadian businesses to invest in Vietnam. He also proposed cultural exchanges to promote mutual understanding.
*** On the same day, Mr Trong met with the Vietnamese Embassy and overseas Vietnamese people in Canada. He highly praised their efforts to integrate into the community and to contribute to their homeland.
At the meeting, NA Chairman Trong spoke about the country’s socio-economic situation. He affirmed that the Party and State always encourage overseas Vietnamese in Canada to become good citizens.
On September 5, Mr Trong left Canada for his official visit to Cuba at the invitation of Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada, President of the Cuban National Assembly of the People’s Power. – VOV
