Vietnam – Belgium Friendship Association: Promoting Bilateral Relations
The Vietnam – Belgium Friendship Association, set up on April 18, 2004, is one of 54 member organisations of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations. Although its operating time is short, the dynamic association is very dynamic in expanding operations and cooperative relations between Vietnam and Belgium.
A total of more than 300 members of the association evidenced the developing relationship between the two countries. Collective members include the Vietnam – Belgium Friendship Association in Can Tho City and Former Belgian Students Club. In the past term, the association had forged and strengthened external relations, gathered a large membership, built up confidence of partners in Belgium like Vietnamese Friends Association in Belgium, the Belgium – Vietnam Friendship Association, the Vietnam Association in Belgium, the Golden Heart, and Lotus Association.
As a new institution, in spite of personnel and operating expense difficulties, the association still managed to maintain and organise external activities. It has called organisations in Belgium to support the struggle for justice for victims of Agent Orange in Vietnam in the case against American chemical companies, mobilised Belgian non-government organisations to carry out poverty reduction projects, cultural, educational, scientific and technological assistance.
With its active activities, the association has played important role in strengthening cooperative ties between the two countries while confirming the relationship between the Belgian Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam – Belgium Friendship Association will be strengthened in the future.
