Vietnam attends European Seafood Exposition

Vietnamese fisheries businesses attended the annual European Seafood Exposition 2011 held in Brussels, Belgium, from May 3-5.

This was the 14th time Vietnamese businesses have attended the event with 50 stands.

According to Nguyen Huu Dung, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP), on the first day of the expo, Vietnam’s tra fish was sold at 3.45-3.6 euro per kilo, much higher than the floor price, with some enterprises signing contracts with foreign partners.

Importantly, Vinh Hoan seafood enterprise won the title “Best Retail Product” for its two products.

Struan Stevenson, Vice President of the Fisheries Committee of the European Parliament, visited VASEP’s booth and expressed his admiration at the rapid development of the Vietnamese fisheries sector.

He said the sector has huge potential and it should improve the quality of aquatic products for export to protect the reputation and trademarks of the Vietnamese items in the international arena.

The European official also revealed that he will visit Vietnam to inspect aquaculture and report to the European Fisheries Committee.

During the expo, a seminar on tra fish farming in Vietnam was held to introduce more information about Vietnamese tra fish products and the country’s fisheries industry. – VOV
