Vietnam animal feed imports rises 20.5% in Jan-Oct

Vietnam is estimated to have spent $1.82 billion on imports of animal feed and materials between Jan and Oct, rising 20.5% from a year earlier, the General Statistic Office said in its October edition.

The Office said Vietnam imported $150 million worth of the products in October compared with $173 million in September, However, it did not give the imported value.

Vietnam will need a total of 17 million tons of animal feed this year of which 10.6 million tons are expected to produced by local firms, the Department of Animal Husbandry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecast.

The department also forecast that the country will have to import animal feeds in 2009-2020 period and demand for animal feed and material will grow at least 8% and 9% in the period, the department said.

Vietnam is now home to 265 animal feed producing and trading companies, with 225 of which have their own produc- ing factories
