Vietnam Air to launch more Japan flights, Myanmar service

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will increase flights to Japan in the coming period to meet rising tourist demand, according to spokesman Le Hoang Dung.

The carrier will increase weekly flights between Viet Nam’s HCM City to Japan’s Tokyo to 14, from the current seven, meeting rising demand among Japanese tourists during summer.

The new flights would depart from Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City at 6:05 and land at Tokyo’s Narita airport at 13:50 everyday from March 28, the airline’s representative office in Japan said, with return flights from Japan using the same local departure times. New flights would take off from Narita airport at 19:00 and arrive in Tan Son Nhat airport at 23:00 the same day.

The new flights will use the Airbus A321-200 with 168 economy-class seats and 16 business-class seats.

On July 1, the airline would also increase the number of flights on the Ha Noi-Osaka route to seven from a current five per week, in anticipation of increasing demand due to the approaching 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Ha Noi, said Dung.

With the latest addition of flights to Ha Noi and HCM City, Vietnam Airlines will operate a total of 43 flights per week from Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat international airports to four Japanese cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka, accounting for over 50 per cent of the aviation market from Japan to Viet Nam.

It hopes to encourage business activities with the increased frequency of its flights.

Direct to Yangon

Vietnam Airlines has launched a direct service from Ha Noi to Yangon, Myanmar.

The carrier will operate a Fokker 70 aircraft on the new route which will have services on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

A promotion fare of VND950,000 (US$49) per round-trip ticket, excluding taxes and other fees, will apply for the period from April 1 to June 10 this year.

Airline deputy general director Duong Tri Thanh said the route would boost investment and business ties between the two ASEAN member countries as well as four countries in the sub-Mekong region.

Thanh added that the launch would help the carrier diversify and complete its products, thus increasing its competitiveness.
