Vietnam adds 1,700 mw of new generation capacity in 1st half

Vietnam added 1,700 megawatts of new generation during the first half of the year, raising total capacity to 16,500 MW, the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam said Thursday.

Of the new capacity, EVN supplied 1,085 MW, and the remainder from other domestic companies, EVN said in a statement.

Total power production rose 10.31% from a year earlier to 52.34 billion kilowatt hours in the first half, of which EVN produced 50.79 billion kWh, up 10.5%.

EVN is expected to reduce its total investment budget this year by 15%, equivalent to VND12.572 trillion ($607 million), in line with the government’s efforts to fight inflation, the agency said. – DowJones
