Vietnam achieves high telecom growth

Vietnam is one of the countries achieving the highest telecommunications growth in the world, as claimed by an international conference on telecommunications in Hanoi on May 19.

Participants in the conference, organised by the Ministry of Information and Communications, exchanged updated information on the strong development of the telecom sector in Vietnam and drew up plans for further development in the future.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Le Nam Thang, said over the past years, Vietnam has made great efforts for developing telecom networks and boosting application of information technology in various fields. The country’s telecom sector has experienced rapid growth, thus narrowing gap between Vietnam and developed countries, as well as improving people’s living standards, he said.

By April 2010, Vietnam had 140 million telephone subscribers, 87 percent of them mobile users, and about 23.6 million Internet users.
