52% of Packed Goods Are Fake, Deficient in Weight
These are the results of a recent survey which was conducted by municipal and provincial science and technology services on 18 groups of packed goods such as foodstuffs, fertilizers and confectionery at 3,131 stores nationwide since last April.
Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Anti-counterfeiting and Trademark Protection Le The Bao said previously a genuine product was often forged eight months after being marketed, but now it takes only one month.
In mid-Jan, the Vietnam Standard and Consumer Protection Association said it received 388 appeals and complaints from local customers in 2009, up 20.67% on-year.
Up to 62% of the complainants said they were victims of fake or low quality goods and services, the association added. (Dat Viet, Liberated Saigon)
