Viet Nam, Turkey draw closer on trade, tourism

There was great potential for co-operation between Viet Nam and Turkey, especially in the fields of economics, trade, education and tourism.

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan made the statement at a meeting with Turkish President Abdullah Gul on the sidelines of the third summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) on Wednesday.

Doan thanked President Abdullah Gul for his welcome, congratulating Turkey on their successful organising of the CICA summit and assumption of the CICA presidency.

She said she hoped that as CICA President, Turkey would successfully perform its role at the forum in the future, contributing to building a peaceful, stable and co-operative environment in Asia and beyond.

In terms of ties between Viet Nam and Turkey, Viet Nam always wished to lift co-operation to new heights, she said.

The two countries’signing double taxation avoidance and investment encouragement and protection agreements in the future would certainly set an important foundation for the strong development of multifaceted co-operation between the two nations, Doan stressed.

For his part, President Abdullah Gul congratulated Viet Nam on becoming an official CICA member and highly appreciated the contribution and suggestions made at the summit.

The Turkish President also spoke highly of Viet Nam’s position in the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN), saying he believed that with the role as ASEAN Chairman, Viet Nam would help Turkey foster ties with the grouping.

He also suggested that Viet Nam support Turkey’s bid to attend the Treaty of Amity and Co-operation in Southeast Asia.

Abdullah Gul took this occasion to send an invitation to President Nguyen Minh Triet to pay an official visit to Turkey in the coming time. — VNS
