US$1.5 bln for power plant in Tra Vinh

The Ministry of Industry and Trade and Malaysia’s Janakuasa Company signed a memorandum of understanding in Hanoi on April 7 to develop a US$1.5 billion power project in the southern province of Tra Vinh.

The Duyen Hai 2 thermal power plant, to be built by Janakuasa in Duyen Hai district, will have two generators with a total design capacity of 1,200MW.

Construction of the coal-fuelled plant will begin in 2011, and is scheduled to begin generating power in either 2014 or 2015.

The Malaysian company, which specializes in energy, opened its representative office in Hanoi in September 2009.
