US ups ante for Vietnamese shrimp exporters

The US Department of Commerce has hiked anti-dumping tariffs on Vietnamese shrimp, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The increase follows an annual review of anti-dumping tariffs that have been in place since 2004 by the DOC.

The rates have been increased from 2.89 percent to 4.27 percent for 29 Vietnamese exporters.

For those not listed in the investigation, however, the average rate stays at 25.76 percent.

VASEP cited the DOC’s report as saying that Minh Phu Seafood Company is the only company to enjoy a cut. From 3.27 percent, it has been reduced to 2.96 percent.

The Nha Trang Seafood Joint Stock Company has seen the tariff spurt from 2.5 percent to 5.58 percent.

In November 2004 the DOC first said that Vietnam and China dumped frozen and canned shrimp on the US market.

It separated the two countries from others since they were “non-market” economies. – Tuoitre
