US$ 4.9 billion power plant to be built in Binh Thuan

Representatives from the UK’s International Power PLC, Japan’s Sojitz and Pacific Joint Stock Company of Vietnam, and Binh Thuan provincial leaders worked together on March 10th to review the Son My Power Plant project.

At the end of February of 2010, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai had agreed to let the three corporations build the Son My Electricty Center and the Son My Power Plant No 1, located in Son My Industrial Zone in Ham Tan district.

The Son My Electricity Centre will build three power plants, with a total capacity of 3,600MW, at a cost of US$ 4.9 billion. It is expected that the centre would provide 23.4 billion KWh each year.
