U.S. remains biggest importer of Vietnam footwear: Ministry

The U.S. continued taking the lead among 40 major importers of Vietnamese footwear products with total revenues of more than $1 billion between Jan and Sept, rising 32.9% from a year earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.

The figure accounted for 28% of Vietnam’s total footwear export values, which reached $3.6 billion in the period, up 23.8% on-year, the ministry added.

Followings were the U.K. and Germany with respective import values of $364.7 million and $247 million in the Jan-Sept period, up 10% and 12.7% on-year.

The ministry said that Vietnam gained sharp increases in footwear exports to Brazil, India, Indonesia and China during the period.

The exports, however, dropped in such markets as Cuba, Switzerland, Portugal and Sweden, the ministry added.

Vietnam, the world’s fourth largest footwear exporter, is expected to earn $5.2 billion from footwear exports in 2010.
