Two more blue ear pig outbreaks in Dong Nai

The southern province of Dong Nai has detected two more hot spots of the blue ear pig epidemic involving 800 diseased pigs in two hamlets of Bau Can commune, Long Thanh district.

The provincial veterinary department has set up three checkpoints and puts more staff on site to deal with these incidents.

So far, Dong Nai has three districts hit by the disease, with 8,000 pigs infected.

The local veterinary department has destroyed 6,000 sick pigs and boosted public awareness in a bid to curb the spread of the disease. Safety rules are being strictly observed even in districts and communes that are currently free of the disease.

Meanwhile, another southern province, Vinh Long, is trying to vaccinate its pigs against the blue ear pig disease and to instruct local people how to use pork safely.- VOV
