Tokyo Metro shows interest in Ha Noi’s urban railway
Japanese railway company Tokyo Metro was ready to help Ha Noi with management and staff training for the city’s urban passenger railway system, said Tadayyoshi Tohama, a company board member.
The idea was suggested to Nguyen Van Khoi, deputy chairman of Ha Noi’s People’s Committee, at a meeting on Wednesday with a Japanese delegation that specialise in urban passenger railway investment and construction.
The delegation, led by Eguchi Shuji, Head of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Department of International Co-operation, is on an official visit to the country to explore investment opportunities in urban railways.
The city’s buses could not cope with the rising demand for public transport, said Khoi.
Ha Noi has plans for five urban railway routes linking satellite cities such as Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen and Thai Nguyen by 2020. – VNS
