TNT Vietnam Expands Logistic Capacity

Vietnam has been the most dynamic economy in South East Asia. Productivity and manufacturing is rising. This trend in the economy requires a lot of support from the transport, storage, handling, customs and logistics sectors. Vietnam Economic News’ Thu Ha had an interview with Mark van den Assem, the country general manager of TNT Vietnam.

TNT Vietnam Expands Logistic CapacityThe logistics industry needs more investment to accommodate high demand spurred by strong economic growth. What investments is TNT Vietnam making in this growing industry?

Vietnam‘s booming market-driven economy has made it “The New Factory to the World”. Vietnam’s manufacturing sector is showing tremendous growth, especially in the areas of garments, hi-tech and automotive industries. Therefore, we have made many significant investments in our networks and capacity to serve customer’s requirements in transportation and distribution. In 2009 alone, we opened an expanded International and Domestic Operations Center in Ho Chi Minh City (in addition to our existing facility in Hanoi and Da Nang) and extended TNT’s distinctive Asia Road Network into Cambodia, thus providing a more comprehensive road option for our customers in Vietnam. Also, TNT increased its capacity to Europe by deploying another Boeing747 between Hong Kong – China and Europe (the other TNT freighter connects Europe to Singapore and Shanghai).  This has given our Vietnamese customers another air option to transport their goods into Europe. These are the main highlights of investments that have boosted TNT Vietnam’s position in 2009.
Can you provide more details about these investments?
For transportation with Asia, we have our unique Asia Road Network. It is one of our distinguishing points in Asia. Asia Road Network currently link 127 cities across six countries (from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and the south of China) and stretches more than 7,620km. This network offers customers cost effective transportation solutions with a day-definite delivery schedule. TNT is the first express company to establish a dedicated road network that is wholly operated and managed by the company. The Asia Road Network in Vietnam links us with the rest of Southeast Asia and China for reliable and cost effective transportation to and from Vietnam. Besides express services, new Freight Services and Solutions are launched that enable our customers to send freight to and from Europe, China and Southeast Asia with reliability, safety and cost effectiveness. TNT Vietnam can now offer a widest range of express and freight services to all our customers to take a leading position in contributing to the support of important national trade and development goals. To further seamlessly integrate our air and road network, we invested in International and Domestic Operations Centers in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi minh City. These operations centers are critical in expanding TNT’s presence and connectivity in the region because Vietnam is a bridge between Southeast Asia and China. The operations centers are also to enhance our freight service offering in both Vietnam and the region.
In addition, TNT launched its dedicated Boeing 747-400 ER freighters between Singapore, China (Shanghai) and Europe, and between Hong Kong – China and Europe. It helps to create a strong and stable capacity to manage greater international freight flows. The freighters enable TNT to pick up and quickly process more freight from customers in Vietnam as the country’s economy grows. We also made a lot of investments in our operation tools and facilities with state-of-the-art technology for freight processing, tracking and security because we specifically target the business needs of high-tech, garments and equipment and machinery sectors. Last but not least, TNT is the only company in Vietnam to have received IiP Certificate (Investor in People). The company received this certificate as early as in 2002 and it is proof of TNT’s commitment to training its people. TNT understands that people are the core of the business and is therefore committed to continue to invest in its staff. So, we are an international company with services designed to meet all customers’ requirements. Our customers can benefit from our integrated air and road networks for all international and domestic shipments.
What benefits TNT’s investments can bring to customers in Vietnam?
In Vietnam, TNT provides International and Domestic express and freight services and solutions with our integrated air and road networks with operation in 23 cities and provinces of the country, 500 professional staff work for TNT across the country.          As the world’s leading express delivery company, TNT has already made investments in networks and capacity because we want our customers to benefit from the seamless, one-stop-shop solutions that meet their unique needs, regardless of the content of the shipment. Extensive networks and capacity are designed with advanced freight processing technology to support and further develop Vietnam’s growing logistics industry by speeding up turnaround times, safety and reliability of goods. This ensures our customers, especially those in the high-tech, garment, equipment and machinery industries, become more competitive due to faster factory-to-market lead times and increasing inventory management efficiency. The security features are particularly important to ensure the safe transportation of high value goods such as luxury garments, microchips and machine components. We also have in-house customs clearance thereby facilitating faster customs clearance. With current economic status, more and more customers want to look for partners who could provide good service quality with cost effectiveness. This is where TNT can play our role thanks to these investments. All these features helps TNT provide the most comprehensive express and freight solutions in Vietnam. Our customers can enjoy integrated air and road services under one roof with high safety and reliability for sending freight overseas and within Vietnam. TNT connects Vietnam’s business to the rest of the world via our integrated air and road network between Europe, China and South East Asia. Our continuous investment in Vietnam and Asia clearly demonstrates TNT’s long-term confidence in the region and our continual commitment to raise our service capabilities on behalf of our customers.
What are the next steps for TNT in Vietnam?
TNT’s strategy is to leverage on the soaring demand for freight express services between Vietnam, the rest of Southeast Asia, China and Europe to grow its business in the region. We want to move Fast Forward in Vietnam as well as in Asia. We will continue to invest in our facilities and people in Vietnam. TNT will continue to look for new initiatives that ensure more reliability, safety and cost effectiveness for our customers who send freight to and from Europe, China and South East Asia./.
