Tiger prawn prices hit all-time highs
Tiger Prawn Prices surged to the all-time high levels in the Mekong River Delta province, Vietnam’s largest shrimp export area, the online newspaper Saigongiaiphong reported on November 12, citing local farmers said.
In Ca Mau province, the wholesale prices of big-size tiger prawn of 20 shrimps/kg have been sold at the multi-year high of VND200,000/kg, increasing VND10,000/kg while tiger prawn of 30 shrimps/kg increased to between VND170,000- VND190,000/kg.
The prices of tiger prawn sharply increased due to seasonal factors and epidemic diseases which resulted in 30%-40% lower shrimp production.
Local traders predicted that the prices of shrimp are likely to keep the uptrend until the end of 2010. – Stoxplus.com
