Thua Thien-Hue taps craft village potential

The central province of Thua Thien-Hue is working on a plan to tap tourism potential of its 88 craft villages, including 69 traditional ones.
Accordingly, local agencies have teamed up travel companies to design tours to such traditional craft villages as the pottery village of Phuoc Tich, the embroidery village of Thuan Loc, the conical hat making village of Phu Cam, the bronze casting village of Phuong Đuc, the sculpture village of My Xuyen, and the knitting village of Bao La.
A tour, themed “The old fragrance of the ancient village”, has attracted many visitors to the pottery village of Phuoc Tich.
The Huong Giang Tourism Joint Stock Company has partnered with the Dutch organization, SNV, to implement the model called “Doing tourism business along with poor people”, at the Huyen Tran Cultural Center to promote local community participation in tourism activities.
In addition to that, Thua Thien-Hue plans to hold a traditional craft village festival following the Hue Festival to promote handicrafts and craft village tourism.
The province has set to receive 3 million tourist arrivals, with about half of them foreigners, by 2015. – VIR
