The Mekong River Delta, Vietnam’s southern region, exported 5.2 million tons, accounting for 90% total rice export of the country as of Mid-October, the state-run online newspaper TTXVN reported on October 18.
The region export revenue of rice reached $2.1 billion, increasing 13% on year. Exports to Asian and African countries accounted for 70% of Vietnam’s exported rice.
The Vietnam’s region is estimated to export between 5.5-6 tons of rice for the whole year 2010 as the last four crops got higher output thanks to better preservation of pestilent insect. Rice output is expected to reach 21 million in the Mekong River Delta, rising 269,000 tons from 2009.
Earlier, on October 11, Vietnam Food Association (VFA) said that Vietnam is estimated to export 6.6 million tons of rice this year, breaking the record of 6 million tons in 2009.
VFA also raised its the average price of exported rice $10/ton to $445/ton on October 15. – Stoxplus.com
