Thai Nguyen Cultural Tourism Week 2010
On May 18, 2010, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People’s Committee of Thai Nguyen province opened the Tai Nguyen Cultural Tourism Week 2010. The event was held to welcome the success of the first Vietnam national ethnic minority congress and commemorate the 120th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh.
Culture in different colours
The outdoor display area at the Museum of Vietnamese Ethnic Cultures was more crowded than other days thanks to the presences and performances of arts companies from all over the country like Ninh Thuan, Soc Trang, Kon Tum, Ha Giang, Cao Bang and Son La. They bring all forms of folk songs, music and dances across the country to the event.
Sinh Van Phong, a fire dancer from Tan Bac commune, Quang Binh district, Hau Giang province, said: “On this occasion, we will introduce the fire dance – a genre of dance characterised by minority ethnic Pa Then. Artists must start learning the dance when they were 11-12 years old to perform the traditional dance to the public when they are 36.†Y Loan, a beauty from Ro Ngoa minority people in Ho Moong Ro commune, Sa Thay district, Kon Tum province, was very happy with her debut far-going trip to Thai Nguyen and with the first northern performance of her village artists.
During this weeklong event, specialities of six cultural zones will be performed. Particularly, new house inauguration ritual Mong Trang people in Hau Giang province; water puppetry by artist Dao Thuc from Hanoi, chau van singing and quan ho singing from Bac Giang province, Grai Poklong tower opening ceremony from Ninh Thuan province, buffalo stabbing ceremony by Ba Na people in the Central Highlands, and flower offering ceremony to open the temple by the Khmer people in Soc Trang province. More than 800 artists will be performed.
Making culture special tourism products
Ms Mau Thi Yen, Deputy Director of the Thai Nguyen Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Deputy Director of the Thai Nguyen Cultural Tourism Week 2010, said: “This is the first time we organise a national event with an involvement of many localities and branches in the country to unlock the rich tourism potentiality in Thai Nguyen.â€
The event was held at the Museum of Vietnamese Ethnic Cultures in the heart of Thai Nguyen City where is preserving cultural values and intangible objects of Vietnamese ethnic communities.
In addition to 12 main activities of the cultural tourism week, visitors can join tea exchange programme and visit Tan Cuong tea area, Coc Mountain Lake tourist site, the Dinh Hoa military safe zone tourist site, and other sites in Thai Nguyen.
