Sugarcane Prices Hit Record at VND1,000/Kg in Mekong Delta

Sugarcane prices hit record in the Mekong Delta region and are expected to continue rising in the coming weeks due to thin supply.

The sugarcane is offered at VND1,000/kg at factories, up from VND830-850/kg from several days earlier, and VND900/kg at field.

Vo Thanh Dang, chairman of the Vietnam Sugarcane & Sugar Association said that retail sugar prices reached the year’s high to VND15,200/kg at factories.

Dang expected that the prices will drop as more sugar refineries start new crops.

At the domestic market, retail prices of sugar range from VND15,000 to VND16,000 per kilo, traders said. (Vietnam Agriculture)
