Southern tourism triangle offers new investment opportunities

The southern tourism triangle, comprising HCM City and the provinces of Lam Dong and Binh Thuan, has created more investment opportunities as the three areas continue to work together to promote tourism.

Ngo Minh Chinh, director of Binh Thuan Province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the tourism triangle had led to new agreements among investors to jointly develop tourism products.

Last November, the three localities reached an agreement to establish the southern tourism triangle.

Binh Thuan Province has 253 tourism projects, with total investment capital of VND37 trillion (US$1.76 billion) from investors in HCM City, while the province has invested in three projects in Lam Dong with a total registered capital of VND80 billion ($3.8 million).

The tourism triangle has been promoted at many major events, including the Da Lat Flower Festival and Binh Thuan Whale Worship Festival.

HCM City has presided over FAM (familiarization) trips for international tourism companies to study tourism markets, products and investment opportunities in the triangle.

In addition, the city has encouraged local tourism companies to take part in events in the city and the two provinces, and has created favourable conditions for the two provinces to join other tourism events in HCM City.

As a result, HCM City-based travel companies have contributed 45 per cent of the total tourist arrivals in Lam Dong and Binh Thuan provinces.

Besides co-operation in human-resource training, the tourism sectors of the three localities have exploited many tours linking their key destinations.

Chinh said the sea-forest-shopping tour through the triangle was considered the most popular among tourists. — VNS
