Small mobile networks start to fire

The competition among small mobile networks was triggered by Beeline’s statement that they wanted to take Number One among four providers namely S-Fone, Beeline, EVN Telecom and Vietnamobile. Other remaining telecommunication firms are also about to have their own stragies.
S-Fone opened the race as launching the internal call package with a cost of 0 dong. Accordingly, from July 1, customers who buy Eco product at 190,000 dong will enjoy free of charge for the second call and further within six months.

Previously, Beeline also had offered “BigZero” economic package which was assessed to make customers get shocked for unlimited internal calls free of charge. Then, due to pressure of market, Beeline stopped the package and then the firm’s image also was fading.

S-Fone hopes that its return with the 0 dong package will attract more 1 million subscribers.

A source from S-Fone, cited by VnExpress, said that after the problems related to operation form and finance are settled, the firm will return market with totally new image. “We are aware that opportunities in Vietnam’s telecommunication market come and go very fast because of competitive pressure. This is right time for us to undertake our strategies”, the source noted.

Currently, EVN Telecom almost is not the rival of any telecom firm in terms of mobile segment in the country despite it is the only firm among aforementioned four networks launching 3G-based services. For a long time, EVN Telecom only has focused on developing fixed telephone service and inner region mobile services. Therefore, the competition will be made by three basic chains S-Fone, Beeline and Vietnamobile.

With 10 million subscribers, Vietnamobile may maintain its leading position among small mobile networks. Recently the firm also continuously launched super-cheap packages, and allowed customers to call outside network with a cost of lower 50%. The package is never applied by any telecom firm at this time.

Specialists said that the return of Beeline with the foreign investment of $1 billion will not be a big issue for the giants such as VinaPhone, MobiFone and Viettel. But big firms should pay attention to S-Fone, Vietnamobile and EVN Telecom.
