The average price of shrimp export also rose to $9.22/kg in the first quarter of this year, up 15% compared with the same period of 2010, the online newspaper Tienphong reported on March 25, citing the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Vietnam’s shrimp export rose to $146.5 million worth of 16,000 tons for the first month of this year, up 47% for value and 27.5% for quantity, contributing 33.7% of total seafood export revenue in January.

The shrimp export to the main markets of Japan, US, EU, Canada and Korea sharply increased in January due to higher demand and higher prices while exports to Asian market slightly fell, VASEP said.
