Sep 5: Vietnam stocks close mixed, weighed by global market plunge

Vietnamese stocks resumed trading after National Day holiday with a mixed note on negative impacts of weaknesses in global markets after weak job data from the US triggering fear of recession.

The benchmark VN Index edged up 0.44 point, or 0.1%, to end at 435.73, the highest since June 23, 2011. Volume jumped 5.4% to 52.7 million shares worth VND812.1 billion including 3 million shares worth VND70.2 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.

The market had a choppy trading today, VN Index opened in the green with 2.5 million shares traded but sometimes it entered the negative ground on selling pressure before the buyers gathered enough steam to keep market in the green.

The market breath today was negative, among 300 shares listed firms on HOSE, gainers outweighed losers by 130 -105 and 54 stocks unchanged 11 stocks untraded. As many as 29 stocks fell to the floor while 42 issues hit the ceiling, 5% each side.

Among10 market caps, 3 gained and 6 fell and one unchanged.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) was the most active share with 3.1 million shares changing hands, closing down 3.8% to VND20,300.

ITACO or Tan Tao Investment – Industry Corporation (ITA) took the second place with 2.6 million shares traded, closing down 0.9% to VND10,700

Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) followed in the list with 2.5 million shares traded, closing down 4.6% to VND12,600.

PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation (PVT) ranked fourth with 2.2 million shares traded, closing up 4.4% to VND4,800.

Sacom Development and Investment Corporation (SAM) was in the last in the top 5 active list with 2 million shares traded, closing down 4.2% to VND6,800.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX bucked trend, closing down 0.25 point or 0.33% to close at 75.11. Trading volume rose 30.5% to 69.4 million shares traded for VND826.79 billion of which 7.6 million shares worth VND160.6 billion were changed hands in put-through deals. This is a high put-through trading volume on this bourse.

Market breadth was almost neutral with 128 gainers, 129 losers and 56 flat issues and 73 untraded. Among top 10 market cap stocks, 5 advanced, 4 fell and 1 unchanged.

KLS was the most active stock with nearly 8 million shares traded, closing down 3.9% to VND12,500 on average.

PVX was in the second place with 4.6 million shares traded, closing down 0.8% to VND12,700 on average.

VND ranked third in the list with 4.44 million shares traded, closing down 4.49% to VND12,800 on average. – Stoxplus.com
