Sep 30: Vietnam Stocks Extend Loss On Volatile Day

Vietnamese stocks closed down today in a volatile trading session as investors stayed cautious.
The benchmark VN Index lost 0.48 point, or 0.11%, to end at 427.6. Volume fell 56% to 34.4 million shares worth VND0.81 trillion including 5 million shares worth VND323.8 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.
The plunge in volume indicated caution in place as there was a doldrums of market moving news.
For the week, VN Index lost 12.7 points or 2.9%, a third straight losing week after a loss of 3.7% last week and 0.6% two weeks ago.
In September was volatile for VN Index but the benchmark managed to stayed in the positive ground with a gain of 2.9 points or 0.7%.
Back to today’s trade, VN Index opened in the red with 1.5 million shares traded. Selling pressure eased but buying interest did not rise, market pared some loss and then climbed to the positive ground in the continuous trading session, but it failed to keep the heat until the last minutes.
The market breath today was negative, among 301 shares listed firms on HOSE, losers outweighed gainers by 138-68 and 82 stocks unchanged. As many as 41 stocks fell to the floor while 14 issues hit the ceiling, 5% each side.
Among top 10 market caps, 5 rose, 2 unchanged and 3 lost. CTG and VIC were only two survivors.
For the active players, Becamex Infrastructure Development JSC. (IJC) was the most active stock with 2.2 million shares traded, closing down 4.3% to VND13,300.
Thuan Thao Corporation (GTT) was in the second place with 0.97 million shares traded, closing down 1.5 % to VND6,600.
Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB) ranked third with 0.9 million shares traded, closing up 0.7% VND14,300.
Binhduong Trade and Development JSC. (TDC) stayed in the fourth place with 0.9 million shares traded, closing down 4.4% to VND10,800.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) was in the last in the most active list with 0.8 million shares traded, closing down 1% to VND19,500.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX fell 0.75 point or 1.04% to close at 71.34. Trading volume fell 41.9% to 32.5 million shares traded for VND349.18 billion of which 1.9 million shares worth VND30.54 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Market breadth was negative with 89 gainers, 180 losers and 46 flat issues and 77 untraded. Among top 10 market caps, 1 gained and 1 unchanged and 8 fell.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) was the most active stock with 3 million shares traded, closing down 1.7% to VND11,800 on average.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) was in the second place with 2.9 million shares traded, closing down 2.5% to VND11,500 on average.
PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) ranked third in the list with 2.2 million shares traded, closing down 0.9% to VND11,600 on average.”-Source:StoxPluscom”
