Sep 23: Vietnam stocks close down for day and week

Vietnamese stocks fell today on negative impact of global market nosedive yesterday, blue chips led the way down.

The benchmark VN Index lost 8.96 points, or 1.99%, to end at 440.3. Volume fell 8.6% to 42.8 million shares worth VND715.5 billion including 10.4 million shares worth VND210.3 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.

For the week, VN Index lost 16.81 points or 3.7%, a second straight losing week. Average daily trading volume fell to 45.3 million shares from 66.3 million shares in previous week.

VN Index opened in the red with 1.8 million shares traded and VN Index lost 440 threshold. The sour sentiment came from global market jittery last night and Asia share plunge this morning. Blue chips hit the hardest and the lost was broad-based. However, the market was able to close marginally higher than 440 on heavy late buying.

Today loss took away of short-term rally hopes building up yesterday. However, market is expected to be volatile these days.

Investors are eyeing September CPI and the government decision on electricity and petrol prices after recent debates that caught wide media coverage.

The market breath today was broadly negative, among 301 shares listed firms on HOSE, gainers outweighed losers by 173-61 and 52 stocks unchanged. As many as 36 stocks fell to the floor while 23 issues hit the ceiling, 5% each side.

Among10 market caps, 2unchanged and 8 lost.

Petrovietnam – Idico Long Son Industrial Park Investment JSC. (PXL) was the most active stock with 2.7 million shares traded, closing up 4.9% to VND6,400

Becamex Infrastructure Development JSC. (IJC) was in the second place with 1.9 million shares traded, closing up 4.2% to VND12,300.

Binhduong Trade and Development JSC. (TDC) ranked third with 1.4 million shares traded, closing up 4% to VND10,300.

Sacombank (STB0 followed in the list with 1.4million shares traded, closing unchanged at VND14,200.

Ocean Group JSC. (OGC) was in the last in the top 5 active list with 1 million shares traded, closing up 2.9% to VND14,100.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed down 0.86 point or 1.14% to close at 74.58. Trading volume fell 15% to 36.7 million shares traded for VND417.06 billion of which 3 million shares worth VND37.93 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.

Market breadth was negative with 99 gainers, 160 losers and 62 flat issues and 71 untraded. Among top 10 market cap stocks 2 gained and 1 unchanged and 7 fell.

Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) was the most active stock with 3.3 million shares traded, closing down 0.8% to VND12,500 on average.

VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) was in the second place with 3 million shares traded, closing unchanged at VND12,900 on average.

Wall Street Securities JSC (WSS) ranked third in the list with 1.3 million shares traded, closing down 2.9% to VND6,800 on average.
