Seminar discusses UK-Vietnam seaport partnership
The UK Embassy held a seminar on the UK-Vietnam seaport partnership in Hanoi on October 5.
Representatives from leading British companies shared experiences in managing and developing seaports, building seaport infrastructure, and supplying maritime equipment and services.
Bob Goldfield, president of Dover Port – one of the biggest ports in the UK with an annual transport value of US$170 billion, said a key to improving efficiency and the best way to reduce impacts on the environment is a general plan.
Vietnam now has 100 international seaports, and nearly 350 wharfs. Goods transported via ports increases by nearly 16 percent per year and around 600 million tonnes of goods are estimated to be transported via ports in 2015. The Prime Minister has approved a plan to develop the seaport system by 2020 and a vision to 2030 with US$18-23 billion investment capital for the 2020-2030 period.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Do Hong Truong, said that the Vietnamese Government often gives incentives to developing seaports and considers it a premise for socio-economic development into an industrialised country by 2020. The Government always creates the best conditions for domestic and foreign investors to develop seaports in Vietnam. – VOV
