Seafood sector fishes for more EU co-operation

Viet Nam is expecting technical and financial support from the European Union’s Fisheries Committee to develop the domestic fisheries industry, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam.

Tam said he hoped Struan Stevenson, member of the European Parliament and the committee’s vice president would be the bridge between the Vietnamese fishery sector and the committee.

At a working session in Ha Noi on Monday, Stevenson explained the EU’s strict quality requirements by saying around 40 per cent of aquaculture products consumed in EU countries were imported. — VNS
