Science and technology academy urged to reach regional standards

Politburo and Party Secretariat member Truong Tan Sang urged the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to pursue a higher research and success potential during his visit to the academy on August 25.

He praised the academy as the leading research and application centre in the country but said it could still become one of the most advanced in the region.

Mr Sang highlighted the role of the academy in providing many valuable scientific and technological studies, applying many of them to reality, as well as training researchers and promoting international cooperation in the field.

He also pointed out that what the academy has achieved still falls short of the state’s expectations and the quality of its science and technology results remains modest compared to international standards. The academy has not been very successful in attracting young and talented employees, he said. In addition, its informational technology infrastructure is relatively poor as compared to that of the region.

The party official suggested the academy soon introduce a mechanism to attract new talented people and to use employees efficiently.
