SCG Building Material sees Vietnam as strategic growth market

SCG Building Material, a subsidiary of Thailand’s SCG, said on Monday that it was pinning high hopes on Vietnam as a strategic growth market for the company.

With its emphasis on marketing activities, SCG aims to achieve 45 percent sales growth in 2010 to reach some $10 million, said Sattawat Thitaram, Vietnam country director of SCG Building Materials, at a press briefing on Monday.

“As stated in the SCG vision, aiming to be an Asean sustainable business leader, Vietnam is always our strategic market that we emphasize and shift our priority to,” he said.

Within the next five years, the company plans to establish a strong distribution network of building materials with more than 50 authorised dealers in 34 strategic localities covering more than 90 percent of Vietnam’s population, he said.

SCG will continue to promote its products through different channels including the SCG Building Materials Showroom which will be opened in Hanoi later this year.

This showroom at 196 Truong Chinh Street can provide SCG product information, technical data and technical consultant service to architects, designers, developers and house owners. All new innovative product and building material solution will also be displayed in the showroom, he said.

In 2015, SCG expects to get more than $30 million in annual sales from building materials business in Vietnam. “We wish to see our master brands among the top brands in Vietnam,” said Anuvat Chalermchai, brand director of SCG Building Material.

The company is introducing its premium quality products under SCG and COTTO master brands. The products are being showcased for the first time in Vietnam at Vietbuild International Exhibition 2010 from July 10-14 at Phu Tho Stadium in HCM City.

SCG comprizes five core businesses of chemicals, paper, cement, building materials and distribution with more than 100 companies under its umbrella and 28,000 employees.

SCG began its regional expansion with Vietnam as a strategic market in 1992. Currently, SCG has nine operations in Vietnam with more than $270 million in total assets, $400 million in sales and trading volumes, and employs more than 800 local employees.
