Rubber export turnover reaches $1.7b

Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced that in the first ten months of this year, Vietnam has exported over 600,000 tonnes of rubber, bringing in total export turnover of $1.7 billion, increasing by 7.7 percent in volume but over 92 percent in value. The average rubber price in the Jan-Sep was posted at about $2.270 per tonne, up 84 percent year-on-year.

The ministry explained that the rubber price increased sharply was because of slump in supplies from large rubber exporting countries such as Thailand due to bad weather conditions, while the demands of importing rubber from China, India remained at high level.

Tran Thi Thuy Hoa, general secretary of Vietnam Rubber Association revealed that Vietnam has already fulfilled the year plan of reaching 2010 rubber export turnover of $1.3 billion. – Tienphong
