Rolls-Royce designs ship lifts for Da Nang, Hai Phong

UK-based Rolls-Royce will design and supply a shiplift and transfer system at the Song Thu Moi ( New Thu River ) shipyard in the central city of Da Nang under a contract with the Ministry of Defence.

With a docking platform 98.2m long and 20m wide and a net lifting capacity of more than 4,500 tonnes, this is the highest capacity system ordered to date by the ministry, and the fifth successive contract to be awarded to Rolls-Royce over the last six years.

The company will also carry out another project in a new shipyard in northern port city of Hai Phong for the Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines)’ Northern Shipping Joint Stock Company.

This system will have a docking platform 179m long and 35m wide and a net lifting capacity of around 23,000 tonnes.

This installation will be capable of receiving Panamax size (biggest ships that can pass through Panama Canal ) commercial ship.

This will be the highest capacity system in the Southeast Asian region.

“The investments mean that the ministry and Vinalines will be able to build and repair bigger and better ships, enhancing Vietnam ’s standing in the global marine industry,” said Patrick Regis, regional director of Rolls-Royce Vietnam .
