Rice prices increase to 8 month high in the South

The prices of scent rice increased to the highest level in the first eight months of this year of VND6,600 per kilo from September 5 in the Mekong Delta River region. The average prices of rice also rose between VND2,000-VND2,4000 from July.

In details, the average quality rice was sold between VND5,200-VND5,500/kg, long-grain rice increased to between VND5,500-VND5,800/kg and scent rice inched up to VND6,600/kg.

Earlier, on August 2, long-grain rice from winter–spring rice that farmers have kept stored cost VND4,600 – 4,700/kg. The summer-autumn rice was sold between VND3,800-VND4,000/kg.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that rice traders had boosted up purchasing prices for some recent months. However, the rice supply declined sharply because famers were out of rice and a large amount for exports was collected earlier. – VOV
