Rice prices increase again

Demands for rice from traders have made prices increase from VND200-500 per kilogram on August 1.

Farmers at Ca Mau Island were pleased with the increased number of traders coming to buy rice yesterday.

Tran Thanh Nhi, a resident at Tan Long Commune, Soc Trang Province said last week that prices for the summer-autumn rice crop has fluctuated between VND3,300 – 3,400 (under US$1) per kilogram, but that now prices have increased to VND3,800 – 4,000 per kilogram.

Traders currently buy rice at the rice field from VND2,600 – 2,700 per kilogram, an increase by VND200-300 per kilogram.

A kilogram of long-seed rice from winter–spring rice that farmers have kept stored cost VND4,600 – 4,700 per kilogram, an increase of VND500 per kilogram from last week. – SGGP
