Rice exports in June to reach 700,000 tonnes

The Vietnam Food Association (VFA) expects to export 700,000 tonnes of rice in June, raising rice exports for the first six months of this year to 3.35 million tonnes, 300,000 tonnes lower than the same period last year.

The General Secretary of the VFA, Huynh Minh Hue said that over the past five months, businesses have exported 2.689 million tonnes of rice at an average price of 454.03 USD per tonne, a year-on-year increase of 42.54 USD per tonne.

These figures were released by the VFA at a meeting held in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on June 3, to review rice exports over the first five months and draw up plans for exporting rice in June and selling this years summer-autumn crop.

According to the VFA, the rice export market is shrinking, despite the slightly higher prices. Besides this, due to the low-quality summer-autumn crop and the abundance of winter-spring rice still in stock, farmers will face a lot of difficulties when selling their crops.
