Revenue from post and telecommunications surges

The total net revenue from post and telecommunications sector in the first five months of this year was estimated to reach 53.7 trillion dong, rising 16.5% from the same period last year, of which, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) gained 34.4 trillion dong, a year on year rise of 11.2%, General Statistics Office (GSO) reported.
Also according to GSO, the total number of new telephone subscribers in Jan-May reached 4.4 million users, or 24.4% year on year, including 31,300 fixed phone subscribers, or 4.6% year on year, and nearly 4.4 million mobile phone ones or 25.2% y-o-y.

Till the end of May, Vietnam had about 127.8 million subscribers, down 11.1% year on year, including 15.5 million fixed phone subscribers, down 5.2% y-o-y, and 112.3 million mobile phone users, down 11.8% y-o-y. The reduction was attributed to the new regulation of post and telecommunication sector to cut down prepaid telephone subscribers.

The total number of subscribers of VNPT reached 65.7 million users as of the end of May, down 16.2% y-o-y, including 10.9 million fixed phone users, down 6.7%, and 54.8 million mobile phone users, falling 17.8% y-o-y.

Meanwhile, the total number of Internet users of VNPT increased strongly. Totally, as of late May 2011, the country had 3.9 million Internet users, up 18% y-o-y, of which VNPT reached 2.7 million users, up 17.3%. Till the end of May 2011, the country had 29.4 million Internet users, up 21% from the same period of 2010.
